What is the Local Skills Improvement Plan?
A Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) is a statutory, employer‑led plan that sets out the key skills needs in a local area and the changes required in post‑16 education and training to better meet those needs and support economic growth.
How does it work?
An LSIP is broken down into 3 stages:
An LSIP runs for three years in each area and is regularly reviewed and updated to ensure the improvement plans remain relevant to the skills needed. This is funded by the UK Government.
The Chamber's Role
The West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce leads the delivery of the Local Skills Improvement Plan as the designated Employer Representative Body, working with Combined Authorities to ensure skills provision reflects employer needs and drives real change, supported by strong collaboration across education providers, partners and stakeholders.
How do they benefit businesses?
LSIPs help businesses access the skills they need by shaping training provision, aiming to improve recruitment and retention, and creating a stronger pipeline of job‑ready talent.
