West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce responds to Andy Burnham becoming Prime Minister

Responding to Andy Burnham becoming Prime Minister, Victoria Wainwright, Chair of West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, said:

“West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce today congratulates Andy Burnham on being appointed Prime Minister.

“His track record of delivery in Greater Manchester has been widely recognised.

“His remarks on being pro-business, pro-education and pro-regionalism will be warmly welcomed by employers in West and North Yorkshire. His commitment to handing more power to the regions are particularly desirable as this will empower business communities to take control of their own destiny and chart their own policy objectives for the communities they operate in.

“We look forward to swift action on helping alleviate the significant challenges impacting businesses, most notably on taxation and operational costs.

“Our members are itching to invest and innovate to help drive economic growth but currently lack the confidence to do so.

“Any measures that can empower businesses will be welcome and we stand ready to work with the new Prime Minister’s administration to unlock the potential that Yorkshire and the country has to drive growth for all citizens and businesses.”
