WNY Chamber reacts to ONS figures

Reacting to today’s figures from the Office for National Statistics, West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce’s head of representation and policy Mark Casci said:

“The fact that Britain’s economy has seen such a subdued summer is testimony to the challenging conditions our business community faces.

“Small businesses are facing significant cost pressures, most notably in the form of taxation, which in turn is impacting investment, recruitment and trade.

“Our parent organisation British Chamber of Commerce is forecasting growth of 1.3 per cent this year, largely down to stronger-than-expected activity in Q1, before the impact of national insurance and tariffs.

“Alongside taxation, employers are also dealing with stubborn inflation.

“This latest economic data makes clear that there is absolutely no room for additional taxation in the upcoming Autumn Budget, which instead, needs to deliver conditions that allow business to invest and grow, rather than keep their heads down amid an unrelenting torrent of overheads.”
