Students from ages 11 – 16 to take part in the motor cart build on the 17th October at Byworth Boilers & 18th October at Bradford College.
Day 1 will be at Byworth Boilers at Keighley.
The activities will follow the below structure:
- An initial get-together to demonstrate what we do (through PowerPoint and visual items) this should take 0.75 hours Max
- Analyse the requirements of the motor cart build (if you could send any further information on it would be very appreciated!) approx. 0.5 hours
- Factory tour – split into groups of 5 students per tour. Have set employees to go into detail on machines applicable to the build such as lathe, milling, fitting – approx. 1 hour per tour / 3 hours total
- Students not on the tour will construct designs and manufacturing methods of the vehicles to showcase innovation and another variant of engineering. 2/3 hours with the above category
- All teams to present their ideas to the Byworth and Bradford college panel for further guidance. 1 hour
- Finally, a tour of a working boiler house – demonstrating the various technologies in one steam boiler and considering those technologies within the motor vehicles
Day 2 will be at Bradford College’s Trinity Green Campus:
Students will be given a short presentation about the ‘challenge’, the workshop rules etc then will have an entire day to build the karts with support from Byworth’s staff, college tutors and some of Bradford College students from engineering/motor vehicle technologies department, they will also design and be creative with the body panels for the Karts in team colours etc.
Judging and trophy’s for the winning team on the day.
