The Chamber Responds to DfT’s announcement on the completion of rail upgrades to Leeds Station

Speaking on the announcement, Chair of West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, Amanda Beresford, said:

“The investments made to Leeds Station are hugely important in demonstrating a commitment to realising the potential contained within the city. The £161m upgrades have already begun to improve regional connectivity, service reliability and passenger experience.

“Speaking on the recent announcements made in the Integrated Rail Plan, the Chamber’s Transport Group is steadfast in the view that these investments must be recognised as only the start of a long-term plan to truly level up Leeds and the region more widely.

“Leeds station is a key gateway to Yorkshire’s largest economic centre and the Chamber has long supported the view that investment in creating an appropriate welcome is essential. We are still of the view that additional improvements into high speed infrastructure will generate further opportunities for investment and regeneration, in turn creating increased confidence, employment opportunities and ultimately increased GVA. The Chamber reaffirms its commitment to the original HS2 + NPR proposal, and wishes to see this encouraging level of investment followed by greater plans.”
