WNYChamber reacts to growth figures

Responding to the latest GDP data, published by the ONS this morning, Mark Casci head of policy and representation at West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce said:

“The fact that GDP increased by 0.5 per cent during the first three months of the year is positive news and will be welcomed by all businesses.

“However, the scale of the challenges facing employers should not be underestimated.

“Businesses are taking fire both at home and abroad, whether that be from rising domestic costs around increased tax burdens to growing global uncertainty around tariffs.

“What we now need to see from Government is a bold plan for growth, including a genuine industrial strategy, combined with a progressive approach to the economy, including business rate reform, a commitment to infrastructure upgrades and support for exporters.

“This will lead to the sustainable economic growth we have needed in Britain for so many years.”
