West & North Yorkshire Chamber publishes Local Skills Improvement Plan for York & North Yorkshire

A new roadmap setting out how skills and training will be delivered in North Yorkshire is published today, with a heavy emphasis on the needs of the region’s employers.

West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce today publishes its report into how the Local Skills Improvement Plan for York and North Yorkshire will be implemented over the coming months.

The LSIP, a Department for Education programme, is being delivered by the Chamber in conjunction with York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority to match learning provision with the requirements set out by local employers.

It will focus on the key areas of York and North Yorkshire’s economy, namely Clean Energy, Green Economy and Carbon Negative Technical Skills, Construction, Creative Industries, Health and Social Care (including Engineering Biology and Life Sciences), Land Based Skills, including Food and Farming Innovation and Manufacturing and Engineering (including Rail Innovation and Securities).

David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, said:

“Not enough people in our county get the opportunity they deserve to create the life they want here.

“The York and North Yorkshire Local Skills Improvement Plan is how we change that and back our ambitious people with more education, training and job opportunities.

“It’s one of the big ways we’re making our county a fairer, more resilient, and more productive place to live, work and do business.”

James Mason, Chief Executive of West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, said:

“LSIPs are transformational for local economies because they represent the voice of business when it comes to what they need from employees.

“The skill sets being delivered match with local requirements and will help drive productivity and employment when it is needed the most.

“We are very grateful to the business community of York and North Yorkshire, and with our colleagues at the combined authority who have been vital partners in this process.”
