WNY Chamber Welcomes Northern Transport Investment

The West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the commitment from government for £415 million in funding for the TransPennine Route Upgrade, as well as a further £1 billion pound dedication to local transport in the North.

Amanda Beresford, Chair of West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce:

“The Chamber of Commerce has campaigned tirelessly for commitments to infrastructure in the North, particularly to improve transport links between the major cities and the TransPennine Route Upgrade.

“Poor transport services have let businesses and communities down in the North for too long. For our Chamber members, a lot of their struggles with recruitment, retention and attracting investment are caused by poor connectivity in the region.

“The TransPennine Route Upgrade will help businesses to attract skilled people they need and help unlock almost £1bn of untapped potential.

“With financial backing from the government secured, we must now see work progress quickly to deliver Mass Transit in West Yorkshire and faster travel connections between York, Leeds and across North Yorkshire.”
