Investment in HS2 will lead to growth

The Chair of the Transport Group for the West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, which supports business in Bradford, Leeds and York & North Yorkshire, has welcomed the announcement of the start of the construction of HS2.  Alastair Gordon said:

“The West & North Yorkshire Chamber has supported plans for HS2 throughout the planning stages.  Today’s announcement is good news.

Businesses continue to call for investment in infrastructure and that’s now more important than ever, if we’re going to see levelling up in the regions.

We hope that building the first stage will show the benefit of connectivity and jobs growth, so ensuring further investment to extend HS2 to our region.”

The Transport Group brings together Chamber members from across West and North Yorkshire with knowledge and expertise in rail, bus and roads.  Its report on the need to create a transport hub for the region, bringing the HS2 trains into a reconfigured Leeds station, succeeded in persuading HS2 to revisit their initial engineering proposals.
