WNY Chamber responds to GDP figures

Responding to the latest GDP data published by the Office for National Statistics this morning,Mark Casci, Head of Policy and Representation at West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Growth of 0.6 per cent is better than many forecasters had anticipated and is testimony to the resilience of businesses in Yorkshire and wider country.

“GDP rising by 0.3 per cent points towards a business community accustomed to weathering economic challenges.

“The ongoing disruption caused by the conflict in Iran will undoubtably feed into the figures for Q2, as well the huge cost pressures facing business.

“Recent political uncertainty in Westminster is unhelpful when business owners are seeking to deliver growth. Employers are interested in policies, not personalities, and it is imperative therefore that the focus returns to investment, lowering costs and easing trade on the continent.”
