An inspirational trade visit to Kenya

West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce has joined with business leaders from all over the world in participating in a trade visit to Kenya.

Head of international Nikki Clow and its chief executive James Mason flew into Nairobi to join with members of 15 other Chambers of Commerce from around the world, as well as delegates from Ghana, Zambia, Mauritius, Uganda, Rwanda and South Africa.

The Chamber was attending the InspireMe Conference, with a view to fostering new markets for the United Kingdom in sectors such as agribusiness, textiles, home décor, manufacturing, hospitality and service sectors.

The conference has been running for three years and has attracted circa 5,000 delegates each year.

Organised under South African-based Absa Bank’s Women Banking Proposition, it aims to “gather local, continental and global business titans with expansive accomplishments to deliberate on business, leadership, and women-related matters to inspire confidence and hope to strengthen and uplift women-led small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their respective fields of endeavours”.

Mr Mason, said: “We have travelled with circa 15 other chamber members across UK to build bilateral trade opportunities and importantly new opportunities for West Yorkshire businesses looking to find new markets for import and export following the challenges caused by Brexit.

“Kenya is a wonderful, energetic and entrepreneurial country and there are significant opportunities for businesses in our region to do business there.”

Elsewhere the Chamber’s Adelina Paduraru was in Brussels this week where she represented Innovate UK at the Internationalisation Academy.
